Review of Windows Vista SP1

March 19, 2008

As you may know, Windows Vista SP1 was released yesterday as a Standalone download on Microsoft’s Website. I ventured out on the web yesterday and downloaded it, and installed it. Since I was on a notebook it wouldn’t let me install it unless my power adapter was in, so I plugged it in. The install took about an hour, which it says it takes about an hour on the Microsoft Site.

I decided that with SP1 installed, I noticed a huge difference in the way my system was performing. The flirt thing was Copying and Pasting a file, prior to SP1 it seemed like it took about five seconds to move the file, since it showed the little Vista loading box. Now, It does it instantly, well depending on the file size that is.

System Startup time also decreased, my system now starts up in about half the time it took before.

Another thing that caught my eye was the wireless connection. Vista never wanted to connect me right away before to my Wireless Router, even though I had it set up to always connect to it when it was in range. After SP1 was installed, on the first reboot startup process, I was instantly connected.

I think it’s safe to say that Vista is ready to start having some users now, but I would recommend if you already have a vista machine, to make sure you go to Microsoft’s Website and download Windows Vista SP1.
